Science Guys Episode-1: Neil Degrasse Tyson

Neil Degrasse Tyson

“The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it.”
Astrophysics is a branch of astronomical sciences which employs the concepts of physics and chemistry to make sure of the nature of heavenly bodies. This branch of science may seem a little boring, time-consuming, even for some people it is a waste of time but some people study this field, spend their lives exploring the universe. Then there comes a guy who is an actor, writer, a TV show host and an Astrophysicist “Neil Degrasse Tyson”. He is a great science communicator, most of his published books are best sellers. Yes, he is a scientist yet he is one of the most influential people on Earth. This guy instead of being popular for some scientific achievement is popular for his ability to popularize science. He is a philosopher and not an ordinary philosopher but he makes people love Astronomy and make people love science and accept it.

“Welcome to the Universe: An Astrophysical Tour” is a book in which Neil and the other two writers have explained “The Cosmos”. In this book Unlike many popular science books that are very esoteric, this one is more like a conversation between expert and the interested layperson. It is a great read for any non-scientist but also science-curious persons. Any reader will be able to see how some complex scientific thoughts fit together. This is the main reason why Neil is popular in Non-Science society as well.
The second thing which makes him a great writer is his knowledge about the scientific history and his way of interaction with a person as a writer. In the “Perimeter of Ignorance” and “Holy Wars” excluding his agnostic views, Neil has carefully examined history-related it with the present science and then concluded it with strong facts.

One of the favorites “The Cosmic Perspective”, in this essay he has related Human Beings to The Cosmos and beautifully described his quote:
“We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts, is that the universe is in us.”
Neil teaches science as a tool in discovering the universe not as a subject to remember. What he does he makes the whole big universe interesting by making us wonder about the facts we already know. He talks about stars, sun, microorganisms, etc. we know about these all that we are supposed to know but Neil makes it so much interesting and it looks like a magical mystery to us and Neil becomes the wizard.
Hence the art of communicating science is the best thing Neil does. He makes sure he has the audience’s attention at the start. He does not bore the readers, he urges the reader to read further and in the end, he makes the reader questioning his own science knowledge hence Neil makes a person ponder upon his own knowledge and urges him to find the answer and that’s the way science works.
