Climate Change and Recent Pandemics (Covid-19)
Humans vs Climate Change and Their Consequences:
Climate change has been a hot topic for years. However, most
of the research conducted is related to the causes and reasons for such a natural
phenomenon.
Definitions:
Currently, the effects of climate change have become a trend
in the scientific community which explores the extinction of several living species
of animals, birds, marine life, and so on. Glaciology, a study which involves “Study of
ICE” is a recent research field that is similar to carbon dating however it
uses ice instead of stones. The benefit is ice specifically “Antarctican ice”
is far more ancient than the stones ever studied.
The reason why we are discussing ice will be made clear in the upcoming article.
let's start with the definition of climate change “Climate change refers to a significant change in climate due to direct or indirect consequences of actions by the existing living beings of that particular area.” This article will be discussing how climate change and specifically how
global warming has an effect direct or indirect on recent drastic climatic
changes on Earth involving virus outbreaks, forest fires, etc. however, our major discussion will be related to the recent pandemic “Covid-19”.
Discussion:
Where most of the viruses are harmful to only aquatic life,
some of them are highly contagious to humans as well. Hence when humans come in
contact with such life, for example eating or drinking water this will cause big trouble. But this is one hypothesis, let’s talk about the other one which
everyone is talking about.
In the recent 500 years, all of the pandemics have been
caused directly or indirectly by human-animal interactions which involve bats,
mice, pigs, birds, and monkeys. One thing common in all of them is these viruses
were stable as long as humans did not interact with them. But as soon as humans
did, these viruses longed towards humans mutated and created worst pandemics (a
term which was invented because of such incidents) ever.
Conclusion:
But what does this all mean? Humans are the reason for such
drastic results? Are we ignorant? Do we not care enough? Well, some parts of it
can be right but not 100%.
Let’s analyze all of this, in the view of scientists and
researchers.
Dr. David Redding,
a research fellow at the ZSL. He says Carbon Brief:
“The characteristics of the
pathogen and its ability to spread are two key components in causing these rare
events.” – Carbon Brief
Hence, form this point of view it just seems to be a big
mathematical dilemma. Moreover, it is likely to humans come in contact with
certain animals or aquatic life due to climate change. As climate change moves
as well from place to place just like humans and our history speaks of it. And people
who think that “Then do not move”, Yes!! It seems to be a good approach to
refrain from diseases, but the reality is, chances are that you’ll get extinct.
Lets’ summarize climate change occurs! Whether humans are
responsible-(Not correct) or not. It will occur as it did in the past (ice ages)
and in the future. The important thing is the readiness for upcoming events. Pandemics
have always occurred when humans were not ready for it. However, thinking that
humans are the cause of everything on the planet it is just plain illogical and
a radical approach.
“When land-based animals move, they bring with them their [viruses] – and they will spread them.”
– Carbon Brief Prof.
Birgitta Evengard
